I was scheduled to have a fight this past weekend. They didn’t have an opponent for me so they told me that I would just do an exhibition match. This is just a sparring session for practice. For some reason my brain didn’t get the memo.

Before the exhibition I said to myself I’m going to be really calm and take my time. I also replayed somethings my coach Gary Russell Sr. said the week before. This all went out the window very quickly. About twenty seconds in I had him against the rope and my mind said get him! I was throwing a million punches with my head high in the air not breathing or doing anything I had practiced. I heard nothing and thought nothing after that moment. I was just reacting. My coach calls it reckless abandonment!! And that’s what it was.

This doesn’t happen all the time ,but when it does its bad! I don’t hear my coaches or anyone one. It’s like the incredible hulk takes over or something. When this happens I’m not afraid of anything just totally reacting, which is totally bad in fighting. It’s also bad to fight while you’re mad its totally the opposite of movies. Its critical that you are able to think adjust and read your opponent. This also happened to me the one MMA fight that I lost. Anxiety totally over took me,the dehydration didn’t help either.

Gary Russell Jr. and I were talking last night and we said, when this happens it’s like I’m Rambo in the woods in a gun fight. The problem is everyone in the woods against me are hiding and shooting behind rocks. I get emotional run out to the middle and start trying to shoot everyone which exposes me to unnecessary dangers. I have a machine gun and they have rifles but I even the playing field when I do this.

I text Master Lloyd how I went into this mode immediately after the bout. He laughed and said you have to get this fixed. You need to find an NLP Master and try to get help with this before it happens down the line. I told him I was glad that he had a possible solution and understood, not just telling me like everyone else you need to settle down DUH!!!!!! He said yeah he understands because he has battled with claustrophobia and people try to tell him to just relax. It’s not that simple. To me It’s like telling a woman that knows nothing about cars to change the oil. She’s out there with tools trying but don’t know what the hell she’s doing. She trying to loosen every screw hoping she gets it right. You keep yelling the same instructions don’t help nothing it only frustrates her! I had this problem in other area’s as long as I can remember, it’s one of the reasons I went to school for psychology.

I got online that night and found a Psychologist that does NLP. I have an appointment tomorrow at 12pm. He’s expensive and an hour and a half away, but if he can help it will be more than worth it. Great thing about it is last night Coach Gary had some great solutions to fix this problem and Coach Herb called me this morning with one that that has had me excited all day!!

  • nice!! way to stay solution oriented!

I always try to look at my coaches voice as a calming force, nothing is better than having an outside observer give you those views that are blurry in the heat of the moment

its funny because when he is not there, its like i know what he would be sayin’ most of the time
