Knowing to Take a Step Back Will Help You!!
I can’t count the times I have been frustrated while training. It happens all the time! This happens more at the boxing gym than anywhere else. They are always telling me that I’m thinking too much. I would always think how am I supposed to do what you are telling me if I don’t think about it? This made no sense to me and would drive me crazy. I am a super analytical person and have always been told that I think too much. So how was I suppose to stop now, plus its works great for me in so many other areas of my life.
Coach Herb finally started telling me to move on to something else. They would later ask me to do the previous thing and I would have it. It was a miracle so I thought. We all do this all the time. But not intentional as we should. If you don’t believe me I’ll show you. How many times have you racked your brain trying to think of someone’s name and couldn’t. I bet the next day or later when you totally forgot about it the name just popped into your head.
Sometimes our brains can’t function right because we are over loading it. The next time you are stuck on a problem that you have been working on for a while with no results, just take a step back. Find something else to do or take a short break. You will be amazed when you return. Some people do this intentionally including myself. I will start thinking hard about a topic or a training move and then totally move away from it. Sometimes I’ll even take a quick nap or do it before bed at night. When I awake the whole outline is done or the move is so much clearer with a variation that I had never seen. Then all I have to do is type away!
