Are You Spooking Yourself And Don’t Know It?

Sometimes we learn things unintentionally that harms us. This is so dangerous, because those things sometimes keep us from reaching our potential. The bad thing about it is most of the time we have no clue that we have learned something harmful to us.

I will give you an example. Have you noticed that young kids can run and jump forever? Leslie was telling me yesterday that she and a friend were in a restaurant. She said that there were two kids that played the whole time and she wishes she had energy like that!

It has been proven that kids only learn to be tired by adults. A study in Behavioral Modification shows that kids learn how to be tired when they see their parents humped over saying that they are tired. This is a learned behavior. The whole time the kids were running around the track they were fine. They had lots of energy and probably could have kept running like Forest Gump!!lol

In my own life I try to stay away from looking at a lot of fighters in my weight class that I might potentially have to fight. Many people don’t understand this, but I could care less. I don’t watch them because I don’t want to view them any bigger than they are. When you do view them bigger it produces unhealthy fears that will work for their advantage not mine.

I have always believed I was right about this. I finally have a real life example of this. Recently, I was talking to Gary Russell Jr. 2008 Olympian and 12-0 pro. He just had another 1st round knock out on Saturday. He told me that he never looks at film. He leaves that for his father to do and prepare him accordingly. I also have heard Mayweather says he doesn’t watch film either, but I bet his coaches do! I believe this is the way they get the right preparation without the fear! Try to look at areas in your life where you might be spooking yourself. How many times in life have you had anxiety about something, but finally face it and say “It wasn’t that bad?” You realize it was only bad in your mind because someone placed the fear there. Start cutting people off when they try to place there limitations and fears on you. They may have failed doing it! Guess what, they aren’t you!!!

  • This is so true. When I decided to go to grad school, I had several people telling me how hard it was going to be. Yes, I knew that when I applied! But I thank GOD that he’s getting me through every class. Kudos to this blog!

  • I really needed to hear that!!!!
