He Was Really Going To Hit Me With A Paddle!!!

Since my hand hasn’t healed all the way I’ve mostly been doing Muay Thai pad work and a lot of shadow boxing. Last night I didn’t an unexpected 30 minute roll with Master Lloyd Irvin. I got tapped a zillion times but it was great, I enjoyed every moment of it. My hand didn’t hurt any more than it has been. I have an appointment today to get a CT Scan to make sure there are no floating fragments, because I still can’t punch with it. The MRI said that there were possible fragments.

My hand hasn’t slowed me down at all I’ve took this time to work hard on other areas. I believe that when something is hurt it God’s way of pushing me to work harder on another area. Every time I get injuried I go up light years in another area.

I’ve been working a lot on my kicks but had been having problems with a particular kick. On this particular day I couldn’t get this combo together on the bag for nothing. My instructor finally said ok I’m going to get the paddle. I thought he was joking even though I’m sure he knew with my personality I wouldn’t mind. He really went to his bag and got the paddle and stood right next to me. I knew he meant business. The next five minutes went by and he said in his Thai accent “ It’s a miracle you are doing it perfect and haven’t messed up once!! Haha” I thought I was focused before but I evidently wasn’t. I did not want to be hit by him!! LOL

The next Sunday at church pastor Keith Battle said “ Fear and Respect Will Make You Do Right.” When he said that, I immediately thought about the paddle. That statement is so true because the fear of being hit made me do the kicks right!! I think fear and respect are to things that our society is lacking. Kids nor adults seem to fear or respect anyone or anything. I’m not saying you have to hit someone or threaten to get respect but something needs to be done.

Look at all of the other parts of the world that have rare incidents of murder, rape, and theft if any. They have put things in place to demand people to do the right thing. Why don’t we adopt them?

  • I wholeheartedly agree man, and its good that you are still training hard! The US needs to get a bit tougher I think. Have a good day and God Bless!

  • I think you’re partially right about fear and respect, though I feel the fear shouldn’t be held nearly as high in importance. I think fear is a tool that can be use to help teach or motivate, but only after the respect has been earned by the teacher. Fear with out respect leads to resentment, hatred, and intolerance.
